History

The theatre is run by volunteers as a venure for amateur theatre, dance and music and is considered a valuable asset to the city's cultural life. There is seating for up to 144. There are several local groups to which the theatre is hmoe. Between these group a ull seasno of entertainment is available from September through to June.

In 1985 the building was sold to Gloucester City Council. At this point the building could of been converted into anything however, The Phoenix Players and St. Barnabas Players (now The Crown Players) approached the council to renovate it back into a theatre. The local community came together the do up the theatre including Prisoners from Gloucester Prison (under supervision) to paint the inside and the local firement to paint the outside. People from the comminity did all of the upholstery, wall-papering and carpentry.
