Description:

Description:

Having first made his mark on the UK pop scene in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s with renowned Liverpudlian quartet The La’s, Power left the group to form a new group called Cast. The timing of band’s emergence was perfect, chiming with the mid-1990s rise of Britpop and, with guitar-based kindred spirits such as Oasis and Blur dominating the charts, Cast’s first two LPs, All Change (released in 1995 and reputedly Polydor’s biggest-selling debut album) and ‘97’s Mother Nature Calls both sold over 1,000,000 copies.
Graham Gouldman formed what became Heart Full of Songs six years ago, purely for the pleasure of playing his songs in their simplest form, acoustically. Backed by fellow 10cc band members and opening the show at 10cc concerts, Graham performed a selection of the hits he’d written for other artistes.
The format became so popular that it adopted a name and undertook its first stand-alone concert tour in April-May 2013, touring again the following year. 10cc’s success over the past three years has been such that the first opportunity for Heart Full of Songs to tour again is this October, with dates to be announced shortly.
After Cast split in 2001, Polydor put an offer on the table for John Power to record as a solo artist, but at the time he’d had enough of the whole music business and felt he had to get out. Power finally released his solo debut, Happening For Love, the first of the three full-length albums featured in this box, in June 2003. Producer for the album was John Leckie, whose numerous production credits include Magazine, The Fall and The Stone Roses’ seminal debut LP, as well as both Cast and The La’s. With the distance provided by hindsight, John views Happening For Love as representing “the last remnants of the Cast sound”.

His status as one of the world’s leading songwriters was acknowledged with his induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Previous inductees include Noel Coward, Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Leonard Cohen and Sting
Graham played with various Manchester bands before forming The Mockingbirds in 1965 (with Kevin Godley on drums), and when the record label Columbia rejected Graham’s first single composition for the band, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The song, For Your Love, became a huge hit for The Yardbirds.

Hugh Cornwell

Justin Moorhouse

Description:

Hugh Cornwell is one of the UK's finest songwriting talents and accomplished live performers.
This acoustic performance will feature songs spanning his entire career from early Stranglers to the current day, including new and never before performed songs from the next studio album ‘Villains’.
As the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in the British rock band The Stranglers, he's enjoyed massive success with 10 hit albums and 21 Top Forty singles, etching himself into Europe and the USA's musical psyche with classic songs, including Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always the Sun and Duchess.
From Live at the Apollo, Phoenix Nights, The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4) and Fighting Talk (BBC 5Live). A little slimmer but still as “belly laugh funny” (Manchester Evening News), everyone’s favourite northern charmer is back on the road and better than ever. After touring last year’s show, of which The Guardian said “the amount of first-rate comic craft that goes into his deceptively simple routines is worthy of admiration” he’s had a think about people.
Cornwell's last studio album TOTEM AND TABOO was released to rave reviews. Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, the album was engineered and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini.
"UK Punk's Dark Lord" David Fricke/Rolling Stone
"His gnarliest record in over 30 years" Mojo
"Ten songs, ten distinct sentiments, ten atmospheres, all unmistakably Cornwell and really, all pretty damn good" Your Flesh
"He sounds more engaged and intense than he has in years" Classic Rock
"Cornwell provides the goods In Spades" Vive Le Rock

And feelings. About people Justin knows, their feelings and how he feels about them. And they about him. It’ll be a (very) funny show. Promise.

‘He charms the pants off the crowd’ The Sunday Times

‘Comedic tour-de-force… brought a tear to a critical glass eye” The Herald

‘Simultaneously down-to- earth and out of this world” The List
