GCHQ

History

Employing over 6,000 people from a range of diverse backgrounds, GCHQ strives to keep Britain safe and secure by working with their partners in the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) and MI5. The headquarters is based in Cheltenham, with regional hubs in Scarborough, Bude, Harrogate and Manchester.

Most GCHQ staff are based in the award-winning headquarters in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, nicknamed 'The Doughnut' due to its shape.

Using their prowess and experience GCHQ is part of the team which protects the UK, along with law enforcement and the other intelligence agencies. They work with HMG and industry to defend Government systems from cyber threat, provide support to the Armed Forces and strive to keep the public safe, in real life and online.

GCHQ works with various partners in the UK and allies worldwide, continually seeking new and better ways to tackle ever-changing global threats. Collaboration is central to their success and learn from industry experts and invest in new capabilities to keep the UK safe.
