History

Originally the hospital was named the Cheltenham Provident Dispensary and was founded in 1813. In 1839 it ws moved to steward house and at this point was renamed the Cheltenham General Hospital. The original building was built in 1848-49 designed by D. J. Humphries.

Today the hospital provides the general hospital services; it also offers some specialist services. The hospital has 16 wards and a number of specialist departments. It also offers an emergency department which is open from 8am - 8pm.

There are two restaurants availble on-site. Located in the Centre Block at the front of the hospital is the Blue Spa Cafe; located in the St Pauls Wing is the Glass House Cafe.

There are large car parks for patients and visitors, for which charges apply. Some visitors are exempt from payment: eg: parents staying overnight with very sick children; patients undergoing treatment such as radiotherapy; parents feeding babies on the Neo Natal Unit. The Trust has 256 parking spaces for the public and 58 spaces for disabled.
