History

Built on an earlier site of a Saxon Church which is mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086. In 1090 William II (commonly known as William Rufus or William the Red) gave the church to Lewes Priory in Sussex & Shortly after a Norman Church was built on the site.

The Church was rebuilt in 1329. Alterations & renovations continued throughout the ages & later due to violent storms causing damage to the Spire, the Spire was rebuilt in 1823.

The church survived the period known as the Reformation in the 16th Century & at that time changed its name to All Saints.

After many years of abondonment in the 18th Century, the church has a major restoration, led by the Victorians Sir George Gilbert Scott & his son John Oldrid Scott between 1858 & 1874.
